From Struggles to Success: My Journey of Faith, Resilience, and Leadership
The Early Days: Struggling Through High School and a Life-Changing Wake-Up Call
High school was one of the hardest times in my life. Each day felt like a challenge I didn’t want to face. I wasn’t a strong student, had little motivation to do homework or take tests, and often felt lost. Being shy and without guidance, I didn’t know how to navigate life’s challenges.
At just 16 years old, everything changed. One night at a local bowling alley with friends, I suddenly blacked out. My vision went completely dark, and my friends had to carry me outside for fresh air. I didn’t realize it then, but this was a wake-up call.
Fast forward to age 18, when I started college, that same wake-up call returned—louder than ever. Within two days, I was hospitalized three separate times. I thought I was dying, and it was the scariest experience of my life.
That moment forced me to stop everything. I quit college, left work, and withdrew from my friends. For over a year, I lived in isolation, unsure of what direction my life would take. Eventually, I worked in a factory making real estate signs, but I knew I was meant for more.
The Comeback: Rediscovering My Purpose
One day, a friend encouraged me with words I’ll never forget: “You have more to give this world than just making signs.” That simple statement pushed me to take action. After work, I drove straight to the University of Cincinnati and registered for classes. That day marked the beginning of my comeback.
Everything began falling into place. I met the woman who would become my bride, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, married my best friend, and we bought our first home together.
I discovered that I actually loved learning. Over the next seven years, I earned a master’s degree in leadership development and a doctorate in education. I also became a Stephen Minister in my church and served as a court mediator for the city of Dayton.

I knew I couldn’t stop there. My career opened doors that allowed me to make a difference in countless lives:
Helping kids in a runaway shelter find hope and stability.
Assisting families in paying for college at one of the nation’s top Catholic universities.
Distributing millions of dollars in scholarships to students at a Cleveland community college.
Facilitating college courses while teaching small business leaders how to achieve success.
Working my way up to eventually become the President of an accounting firm.
Each step along the way confirmed that my calling was to serve, lead, and inspire others.
My Calling: Success With Purpose
Today, I see my mission clearly. I’ve been called to marketplace ministry—to use my life experiences, education, and leadership journey to empower others.
Success isn’t just about titles or achievements. True success is about impact—helping others discover their God-given purpose and equipping them to build a life of meaning, influence, and fulfillment.
